Paul J. Horton


Paul J. Horton is a managing director on First Eagle’s Private Credit team who focuses on originating, structuring, underwriting and executing senior and junior debt investments with private equity clients. He has over 25 years of experience making debt and passive equity investments in middle market companies controlled by private equity sponsors. Paul joined First Eagle in December 2017 when the firm acquired NewStar Financial, where he had worked since 2015. Prior to NewStar, Paul was a partner with Arrowhead Mezzanine, a $500 million mezzanine fund, and before that, a managing director at RBS Securities, where he led a restructuring team handling $15 billion of distressed credit. Previously, he was a founding member of RBS’ US leveraged-finance business, where he was responsible for originating over $6 billion of senior debt and investing $225 million in junior capital. Paul’s earlier career also included both senior originating and restructuring roles at Heller Financial and Gleacher NatWest/National Westminster Bank.

Paul holds a BS in finance from Fairfield University and an MBA from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.
