Mehdi Mahmud

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mehdi is president and chief executive officer of First Eagle Investment Management. He also serves as the president of First Eagle Funds. Mehdi oversees all aspects of First Eagle’s business and works in close collaboration with the key portfolio managers. Mehdi came to First Eagle in March 2016 from Jennison Associates, where he was CEO and chairman of the board. Prior to his CEO role, he held several senior management positions at Jennison relating to product and business strategy, investment supervision of the firm’s value, small-cap, opportunistic and income-equity capabilities, and oversight of key support areas including institutional, retail and sub-advisory client activities.

Previously, Mehdi served in a variety of investment and management roles at J.P. Morgan Investment Management and Credit Suisse Asset Management. Mehdi received a BS in electrical engineering from Yale University.

Kimball Brooker Jr.

Deputy Head of Global Value Team and Portfolio Manager

Kimball is deputy head of the Global Value team and a portfolio manager for the Global Value, International Value and US Value strategies. In addition, he was named portfolio manager of the Global Income Builder strategy in 2016. Kimball joined First Eagle in January 2009 as a senior research analyst covering banks, financial services and holding companies. Previously, Kimball was the chief investment officer of Corsair Capital. He began his career in 1992 as a financial analyst at Lazard Frères. In 1994, he joined J.P. Morgan as an associate in the Investment Banking Department’s Corsair private equity funds. He was named chief investment officer of Corsair Capital and managing director in 2005. Kimball earned his BA from Yale University and his MBA from Harvard University.

Robert Bruno

Head of Retail Distribution

Robert is the president of FEF Distributors, LLC, head of distribution for First Eagle Funds and senior vice president of First Eagle Investment Management which he joined in 1997.

On a functional basis, he is responsible for the direction and oversight of First Eagle Funds sales & marketing. Mr. Bruno has over 25 years of experience in the asset management industry. His prior experience includes: president and chief operating officer with Coelho Associates, LLC (1996-1997), chief administrative officer of Wertheim Schroder Investment Services (1991-1996), Prudential Asset Management (1989-1991), the US Securities and Exchange Commission (1987-1989) and Goldman Sachs & Company (1985-1987). Robert received an MBA and a BS degree from Fordham University.

Rastko Cekic

Head of Marketing

Rastko serves as senior vice president and head of Marketing at First Eagle Investment Management, responsible for marketing, brand, product and media relations. Prior to joining First Eagle in April 2015, Rastko spent over 15 years with Voya (formerly ING U.S.), most recently as the head of Institutional Marketing and Marketing Operations at Voya Investment Management. Prior to that, Rastko held a variety of business unit and corporate marketing roles supporting ING’s investment management, annuities, insurance and retirement services businesses in the US, Canada and The Netherlands. He began his career at ING Group as a participant in its Global Management Program. Rastko received a BA in political science from the University of Calgary, Canada, and his MBA from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Timothy Connolly

Head of Technology and Operations

Tim is senior vice president and head of Technology and Operations for First Eagle Investment Management. He is responsible for the firm’s information technology strategy and middle office operations. Prior to his current role, Tim held a variety of positions including vice president of technology and vice president of private fund accounting. Before joining the firm in 2003, he was responsible for the implementation and support of various investment accounting systems for New York Life Investment Management. Tim began his career as an accountant with New York Life Investment Management's mutual fund accounting group. He has a BSBA in accounting from Shippensburg University and an MBA from Seton Hall University.

Melanie Dow

Chief Administrative Officer

Melanie Dow is chief administrative officer at First Eagle Investment Management with oversight of the Human Resources division, the Corporate Operations division and the Project Management Office. Prior to joining the firm in October 2010 as head of Human Resources, Melanie was a director and senior human resources generalist at Wells Fargo, supporting the Equities, Research and Portfolio Management divisions. Previously, she served as vice president and senior human resources generalist at Bank of America, where she covered the Global Markets Technology division. Melanie began her HR career supporting the Investment Banking division at Goldman Sachs. She earned a BA in psychology from the University of Maine.

James Fellows, CFA

Chief Investment Officer of First Eagle Alternative Credit

Mr. Fellows is the Chief Investment Officer of First Eagle Alternative Credit and Head of its Tradable Credit platform. He also serves on the firm’s Global Investment Committee and the Investment Committees of both its Tradable Credit and Direct Lending platforms. Mr. Fellows became part of First Eagle in 2020 upon the firm’s acquisition of THL Credit. Mr. Fellows has more than twenty-eight years of investment industry experience, principally in the area of leveraged finance. Prior to joining THL Credit in 2012, Mr. Fellows was Co-Head, Alternative Credit Strategies Group of McDonnell Investment Management, LLC, where he helped establish and manage three cash flow CLOs, a leveraged loan opportunity fund and unleveraged fund and a separate account. From 1998 to April 2004, Mr. Fellows was a Senior Vice President at Columbia Advisors, where he served as Co-Portfolio Manager for two continuously offered closed-end funds and four structured product vehicles from their inception, including two CLOs. Prior to joining Columbia Advisors in 1998, Mr. Fellows was a Senior Credit Analyst for Van Kampen Investments in its Bank Loan Investment Group. While at Van Kampen, Mr. Fellows also served as a Credit Analyst for high-yield bonds and privately placed mezzanine bonds. Other responsibilities with Van Kampen included training junior credit analysts for its bank loans and high-yield groups. Mr. Fellows brings extensive knowledge of high-yield bank loans and high-yield bonds, as well as in-depth workout, restructuring and distressed investment experience. Mr. Fellows earned his B.S. degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Nebraska, is a member of The CFA Institute, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Christopher J. Flynn

President of First Eagle Alternative Credit

Mr. Flynn is President of First Eagle Alternative Credit. He also serves on the investment committee for the firm’s Direct Lending platform. Mr. Flynn oversees all aspects of First Eagle Alternative Credit’s business. Mr. Flynn became part of First Eagle in 2020 upon the firm’s acquisition of THL Credit, where he was Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Flynn joined THL Credit in 2007 and served as Co-President and prior to that Managing Director of its Direct Lending platform. He was involved in origination and closing investments, portfolio management, capital raising and management of THL Credit’s direct lending private funds and accounts, and the establishment of the Chicago and New York offices of THL Credit’s Direct Lending platform. Previously, Mr. Flynn was a Vice President at AIG in the Leveraged Capital Group. Mr. Flynn joined AIG in February 2005 after working for Black Diamond Capital Management, a hedge fund, as a Senior Financial Analyst. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Flynn worked in a variety of roles at GE Capital, lastly as an Assistant Vice President within the Capital Markets Syndication Group. Prior to joining GE Capital, Mr. Flynn worked at BNP Paribas as a Financial Analyst and at Bank One as a Commercial Banker. Mr. Flynn earned his M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance and Strategy from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business and his B.A. in Finance from DePaul University.

Alexander Goldsmith

Chief Strategy Officer

Alex Goldsmith is Chief Strategy Officer at First Eagle Investment Management, responsible for helping to drive the execution of the firm’s overall strategy and leading growth initiatives, including both organic and corporate development opportunities. Prior to joining First Eagle in September 2019, Alex spent nearly 10 years with Macquarie Group, most recently in senior strategy roles in Macquarie Asset Management. Before Macquarie, he worked in the management consulting industry where he led strategy and revenue growth projects for asset and wealth management firms and insurers. Alex earned an MBA in management from Columbia Business School and a BA in English literature from Connecticut College. He serves on the investment committee of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, an independent school in Philadelphia.

Robert H. Hackney, Jr.

Head of International Wholesale Distribution

Robert is senior managing director and head of International Wholesale Distribution. He joined Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder Advisers, LLC (the predecessor firm of First Eagle) in 1995 and became the portfolio manager for the firm’s Merger Arbitrage Department at the beginning of the following year. In 2004 he left active portfolio management to concentrate on corporate projects, primarily related to the firm’s recapitalization in 2007. Since 2008 he has worked extensively with the firm’s non-US based clients, both representing the firm’s investment strategies and expanding the opportunities for non-US based investors to invest with the firm. He is currently responsible for all the firm’s international third-party distribution, as well as for the firm’s relationship with investors in the First Eagle Amundi International and Income Builder Funds. He is frequently asked to explain the firm’s philosophy and portfolios to audiences throughout the world.

Prior to joining First Eagle, Robert was a research analyst and portfolio manager for several investment firms, including Kellner, DiLeo & Company, Coniston Partners, and S.B. Lewis & Co. He began his career at Loeb Rhoades, Hornblower & Company in 1979 as an investment banker specializing in mergers and acquisitions. He earned a BA, an MBA and a JD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar. Robert has been active as a trustee or investment committee member for endowments and foundations and is currently a member of the investment committee of the Hunter College Foundation. He chaired the finance committee for the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for over two decades and has been a trustee and investment committee member for Barton College. He is also a member of the Council of The University Club of New York and past chairman of the Committee on Admissions of The University Club.

Brian Margulies

Chief Financial Officer

Brian Margulies is chief financial officer of First Eagle Investment Management. Prior to joining First Eagle, Brian spent more than 20 years with Goldman Sachs, most recently as chief financial officer of Goldman Sachs’s investment management division. In that role he was responsible for financial information, management reporting, profitability analysis, compensation, pricing and strategic business planning, and also worked closely with investor relations on earnings releases, SEC filings and company presentations. His previous roles at Goldman Sachs included head of investment management finance and strategy. Before joining Goldman Sachs in 1998, Brian was a systems administrator in the technology department of Salomon Brothers. He earned a BS in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  

Matthew McLennan, CFA

Head of Global Value Team and Portfolio Manager

Matt is head of the Global Value team and a portfolio manager of the Global Value, International Value, US Value and Gold strategies. He joined First Eagle in September 2008 to lead the Global Value team. Previously, Matt worked for Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) in London, where he served as co-portfolio manager of Global Equity Partners, a group he co-founded in 2003 that ran a focused global equity portfolio for offshore private wealth clients. Earlier in his career, Matt was equity chief investment officer of the Investment Strategy Group for Goldman Sachs’ private client business. He joined Goldman Sachs in Sydney in 1994. Matt started his career in 1991 in Brisbane, Australia, with the Queensland Investment Corporation and was ultimately responsible for the firm’s international equity exposure. He was born in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, and grew up in Queensland, Australia. He received his bachelor of commerce with first-class honors and master of international commercial law from the University of Queensland. Matt holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Matt is interested in the field of education, and he is a trustee (and former president of the Board of Trustees) of the Trinity School in New York City. He serves as co-chair of the Board of Dean’s Advisors of the Harvard School of Public Health and as a board member of the University of Queensland in the United States of America. He is also a trustee of the Board of Directors for the Library of America.

P. Douglas Meyer, CFA

Head of Institutional Distribution

Doug serves as senior vice president and head of Institutional Distribution at First Eagle Investment Management, responsible for setting and executing institutional strategy.

Prior to joining First Eagle in January 2008, Doug was a managing director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, serving as head of Product Management for GSAM’s Global Equity business, which included Global, International, Europe, UK, Asia ex-Japan, Emerging Markets, and China A-Share equity investment strategies. Doug joined GSAM in 2000 as a member of the Consultant Relations team in New York, servicing investment consultants in the eastern United States and in Canada. Prior to GSAM, he was a partner at Lotsoff Capital Management in Chicago, where he marketed to and serviced plan sponsors and investment consultants in the United States and Canada. Doug has been a board member of The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe since 2012 and recently served as President. He also heads the Investment Committee at the Reformed Church of Bronxville.

Doug earned a BA in English from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

David O'Connor

General Counsel

David is general counsel and head of Legal and Compliance at First Eagle Investment Management. Prior to joining First Eagle in January 2017, he served as executive vice president and general counsel for Delaware Investments and the Delaware Investments Family of Funds. He was also responsible for Strategic Investment Relationships & Initiatives and served as chairman of Delaware's Dublin-based UCITs fund group. David served on the firm's Board of Directors, as well as a variety of committees. Prior to joining Delaware, he was an associate in the business and finance department of the Philadelphia office of Ballard Spahr, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, and investment company work.

David is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Philadelphia Futures, a nonprofit organization providing urban high school and college students with resources necessary to obtain a college degree. He received his bachelor's degree with a double major in sociology and biblical studies from Gordon College and his JD degree with honors from Villanova University School of Law.
